Geeky goodness!

I've seen pens covered in polymer clay in the past but never thought to try them myself until recently. I built a few space invaders polymer clay canes last week so I thought that this would be a perfect project to showcase all of the different sprites. Take a look!


I think that they turned out adorable! I loved the results so much that I decided to try a few more with some canes that I had made in the past, including one of my favourite 8-bit designs that I've done - the pink and purple Mario Bros. mushroom.

One thing I did discover is that it matters which kind of pens you use for the project. The first one I made, I used pens made with an opaque frosty outside that didn't melt or deform while in the oven. I actually attempted a few other ones that consisted of a hard white plastic which unfortunately melted and warped in the oven, making them completely unusable. I should have tested them before baking 4 pens all at the same time but I was so excited to give it a try. Lesson learned....hopefully :)

Sometimes I get bored. Like really bored.

And I do things like this...

A low-sugar lemon meringue pie and dinosaur pie crust cookies. I was totally psyched to finally have a reason to use my dinosaur cookie cutters that I got for Christmas. Man, I love dinosaurs. Man, I love pie.

The birds and the bees they are wise to the lies...

Two bad things I learned today; 20 hour migraines are quite unpleasant and the smell of burnt popcorn lingers. Forever. Two awesome things I learned today; Xbox Live 1 vs. 100 and that Swiss Chalet delivers in just over 20 minutes.

Finished up the necklace with the beads that I mentioned in the last post. C-h-h-h-h-h-eck it out.

You're lying if you say you didn't like like this game....

I spent many hours as a kid (or six months ago) spending hours playing Tetris. I love that game to pieces. You can imagine how psyched I was when they put out Tetris Party on WiiWare! So when I came across this yesterday, I totally had to make it! So I did. Super easy and most of the supplies I already had in my ever growing craft stash.

I made my way over to The Loop today after work to see if they had any bag handles for my project. They did! Sadly none that were going to work though...sigh. I guess I really am back to square one. Bah.

I also must state how bummed I am that I am going to miss the Halifax Crafters spring sale. I only just realised that it is this upcoming weekend and I'll be out of town at my parent's place since my sister arrives home on Thursday. Maybe next year. Or maybe I can even be a seller next year! Here's hoping!

First off, I'd like to say that I had no part in the making of the cake you are about to see. It can all be contributed to B and B only. For Lamb's birthday this year he actually offered to make the cake. To be honest at first I was surprised. Genuinely surprised. And curious. In the four years that we've been friends, I've never seen him cook a thing. Wait, I think I once saw him stir something in a pot. Does that count? Anyway, I asked "Seriously, you know how to bake a cake?" "Yeah, I'm actually a pretty good cook" he tells me. "Then why the fuck am I always the one that cooks for everyone" I ask. His response? "I'm lazy." True enough.

This is what he came up with. Hand Banana. Seriously. If you don't know who Hand Banana is please click here. Please be warned, you may feel uncomfortable eating a banana for the next six months. Or being around dogs. Or gross hairy dudes. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU THOUGH!

Heroes in a half shell, turtle power!

Yay to getting off work early! It gave me a time to stop by th fabric store to pick up some new prints. I don't actually have a use for them or a project lined up but the few things I picked up gave me some ideas of projects for later on. Most will probably end up as lining for a crocheted bag.

This weekend I was suppose to be rather busy with a few different events but as usual, most of my plans fell through. So instead of just sitting around, I decided to start a project that I knew I could finish by the time Monday morning rolled around. It didn't have to be functional, it just had to waste time and I needed to have something to show for it in the end. So I decided to make another Ninja Turtle amigurmi! I had originally made one for a guy at work and it was such a big hit that I decided I would do another one. Plus, they turned out so bloody cute! Most of the pattern I copied from Atsuko and Rheatheylia over at craftster.org although I did make a few slight adjustments. Much thanks to them! I also made Donatello's bō staff out of polymer clay and included a micro magnet inside the bō and one inside one of his arms so it looks like he's holding it. Hopefully I'll get around to make the last two turtles someday!

My hands have never hurt as much as they did after this project. Honestly. Using my clay gun once makes my hands go red and raw. Using it about a hundred times within a few hours, made it impossible for me to touch anything for awhile without squirming in pain. I've been making polymer clay canes for a few years now but I've never really tried making any pictures within them (except for a once failed skull, so bad). I decided on an 8-bit Nintendo character as it would be pretty easy to work with. I printed off a pretty basic picture of one, broke it down into a grid pattern and got to work! Originally I was going to do with the more typical mushroom colours but I was lacking in orange and red so I decided to go with cute (and would match most of my clothing) instead.
